Description
ECU Health Medical Center- Inpatient Rehabilitation Program seeks a Clinical Doctoral MFT Intern to join our Marriage and Family Therapy Program on the campus of ECU Health Medical Center, a 900-bed academic medical facility in Eastern North Carolina. The Inpatient Rehabilitation Center at ECU Health Medical Center is a 75-bed facility that serves a post-acute population (adults and children) with a variety of medical diagnoses and disabling conditions. ECU Health Medical Center is affiliated with the East Carolina University Brody School of Medicine and is the primary teaching hospital for the schools of nursing, medicine and allied health. The intern will serve on an interdisciplinary treatment team that includes physicians and residents, nurses, case managers, medical family therapist, speech-language pathologists, and physical, occupational, and recreation therapists. We have C.A.R.F. accredited specialty programs that include: Pediatrics, Brain Injury, Stroke (Neuro), Spinal Cord Injury and General Medicine. These programs provide a rich environment for collaborative care and the intern will have the opportunity to rotate across programs, allowing for in depth learning about specific diagnoses and their unique biopsychosocial and spiritual dynamics.
Consistent with ECU Health Medical Center’s value of providing patient and family-centered care, the intern will be involved in facilitating patient and family understanding and acceptance of their conditions and life-changing events. Services to be provided by the intern include individual, family, and group therapies. In addition, the intern will provide consultative services to the rest of the treatment team and participate in weekly interdisciplinary team conferences and family conferences. The intern will have the opportunity to earn considerable number of clinical hours towards licensure. An AAMFT Approved Supervisor or AAMFT Approved Supervisor Candidate will provide clinical supervision. The Doctoral intern also will serve as a clinical supervisor to Master’s level MFT interns and will be able to work towards AAMFT supervisor status. There will be opportunities to provide interdisciplinary educational presentations and participate in program development/evaluation. The intern will have the opportunity to develop a unique research project that will enhance their internship experience. The intern will become certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Training. New this year is an undergraduate teaching opportunity at East Carolina University for Human Development and Family Science program HDFS 1103.
On-site support and supervision are provided.
